Mizuhiki paper cord is individually placed onto maple wood and a water-resistant finish is applied. Pendant is attached to a rope necklace. 

Necklace length is adjustable. 

 

Mizuhiki refers both to the rice paper cord and to the 600 year old artform of knot-tying using said cord. Traditionally, it is used at important festivals and ceremonies and to decorate envelopes. The Mizuhiki knot is believed to connect the hearts of the sender and receiver and is very important in the Japanese culture. 

 

Shingo Nakata was born in Iida city in Nagano prefecture which is known as the centre of Mizuhiki production in Japan. His work gives birth to a new story about Mizuhiki, using modern techniques and designs while preserving the long history, traditional creativity, and spirituality of the Japanese paper cord. He is having great success in Japan with his work most recently being featured in a top hotel chain in Japan.
